Valdosta State University is a comprehensive university – meaning we offer associate, bachelor, graduate, and doctoral degrees. Settled just fifteen minutes above the Florida state line, we are located in the heart of South Georgia in one of its largest cities. We love our palm trees, live oaks, fountains, and sunny days on the Front Lawn. Our students enjoy hands-on experience, individual faculty interaction, and unique experiences like undergraduate research in the Florida Keys.
At VSU, students take learning beyond the classroom. Here, you can participate in research or practice with faculty members as early as your first year. You’ll utilize technology from the hospital room to the news room and everywhere in between to gain professional-level knowledge in your field. You can study abroad in over 100 locations around the world, then apply your experience at home. Whatever experience you’re looking for, you can find it here. It provides a full array of services to enhance students’ college experiences and support learning in and out of the classroom. Programs that serve the needs of international students, a Career Services office that prepares students for success in the professional world, and other resources are available to students.
All students are assigned an academic advisor when they enroll at the university. Once you have declared your major field of study, there will also be a faculty advisor assigned to you as well. Graduate students have program advisors to help with advising and assist with registration. Your advisor is the best person to help plan your classes, assist you with your academic concerns, and direct you in the best route to take depending on your personal, educational, and career goals.
Odum Library is the heart of Valdosta State University. Library materials are available for students, faculty, staff and community members to use. The library collection includes approximately 530,000 volumes, electronic and print journals, government documents, microform, and audio-visual materials, as well as numerous maps, charts, and archival resources. The library subscribes to numerous print magazines, journals and newspapers and has more than 64,000 full text online journals available. Students, faculty, and staff also have access to all eligible circulating materials at all Georgia university libraries.
The Union is the community center of the university, serving students, staff, alumni, and guests. Traditionally considered the “hearthstone” or “living room” of the campus, today’s union is the gathering place of the college. The Union provides services and conveniences that members of the college community need in their daily lives and creates an environment for getting to know and understand others through formal and informal associations.
Last but not least, you’ll also find opportunities to connect with other students outside the classroom in anything you enjoy. Whether you’d rather spend your time in the pool or playing pool, kayaking local springs and rivers or leading others in service, we have an experience specially tailored for you. And if you can’t find something in our 200+ student organizations and activities, you can start your own!
