BSc Nursing degrees with the University of Stirling are approved by the UK’s Nursing and Midwifery Council and our graduates are highly sought after. The University of Stirling was the winner of national Student Nursing Times Awards in 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2016, recognising the excellence of its nursing programme and of its staff.
We offer BSc Degree programmes in two fields of nursing: Adult nursing and Mental Health nursing. BSc degrees take 3 years to complete and BSc (Honours) degrees take four years to complete. 50% of our degree programme will consist of academic work and 50% will consist of clinical practice.
Adult nursing offers a significant role in caring for people and their families within a wide range of settings. There is a great variety of careers available within adult nursing and skills learned are valued around the world.
Mental Health nursing is a rewarding profession which allows its practitioners to establish strong therapeutic relationships with their clients. Mental Health nurses support people who could be suffering from a wide range of conditions including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, eating disorders, clinical depression or self-harming.
Careers in nursing are dynamic as the healthcare sector responds to developments in health and emerging health priorities, rising expectations among users and carers and changing attitudes in society. Through the use of clinical scenarios and extensive skills training, we will prepare you for working in an ever-changing healthcare environment.
Today’s nurses are required to assess patients’ needs, care for them and support both the patients and their families, while playing a full and crucial role in the wider healthcare team. Our nursing course is designed to give you the skills and confidence necessary to fulfil that role in the healthcare teams of tomorrow.
Your BSc Nursing degree course will provide you with opportunities to work with a range of professionals, groups and individuals. You will support people and their families during periods of ill health, promote health and wellbeing and care for those with enduring and/or life-limiting illness.
As a student you will be based in and around our beautiful campus and your clinical placements will take place in Central Scotland, although options for placements further-afield could be available.
You will be offered a vibrant, thought-provoking and challenging academic course coupled with a wide range of practice learning experiences.
