Our staff have an international focus, engaging with some of the most important issues and question confronting contemporary societies at a global as well as local level. Aberdeen Sociology staff specialise in areas as diverse as global conflict and peace studies; global political economy; religion and secularisation; identities and well-being and even the relationship between humans and other animals. All of the latter is also reflected in our research lead teaching model, where our students are introduced to the various theories, research methods and bodies of knowledge that equip them to explore and understand many of the most important issues of our times.

As to Aberdeen as a place to study, it is a vibrant, creative and ambitious city, known for its historic charm and cosmopolitan community. Aberdeen has something for everyone, from the bustling city centre of Europe’s Energy Capital, to the beautiful countryside and coastlines, there’s plenty to see and do. Based in the North East Coast of Scotland, Aberdeen finds itself in the perfect location for mixing colourful city life with exploring miles of surrounding countryside. The city itself has a university of aberdeen old buildingsdynamic and friendly community, known not only for being the Cultural Centre of the North East of Scotland, but also Scotland’s Safest University City, the Happiest City to Live in the UK and even one of Scotland’s Sunniest Cities.
