Cardiff University School of Social Sciences offers a dynamic and engaged teaching environment. We are an internationally recognised centre of excellence across a range of subject areas, including sociology, policy studies, criminology, education and social work. Here at the School we place a strong focus on employability, encouraging you to think about your future from day one. In 2015/16, 96% of the School’s graduates were employed, engaged in further study or both. Our courses are designed with a strong focus on international employability, offering students fantastic opportunities to study abroad, as well as taking on placements and internships both nationally and internationally.

The majority of our undergraduate students have the opportunity to take a module in their second year which embeds a work placement into the curriculum. Many of our undergraduate programmes also offer the opportunity for you to extend your degree to four years with a third year spend on a professional placement.

Most placement host organisations are based in Cardiff within easy reach of the University. We have previously worked with a wide range of organisations such as Welsh Government; National Assembly for Wales; Public Health Wales; NSPCC; British Council; and Institute of Welsh Affairs.

The School also offers opportunities for students to take on summer placements both in the UK and internationally. In 2016 students from the School undertook work placements, internships or volunteering opportunities in Canada, Fiji, India, Japan, Thailand, Tanzania and the USA.

We have a dedicated Employability and Placements manager who is on-hand to offer advice on available work placements, internships, work experience and other opportunities to enhance your CV.

Cardiff University offers a range of highly prestigious international scholarships to reward the best students. These include our own student scholarships, such as the Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship worth over £2M, as well as some run in conjunction with other organisations.
